Venator-Class Star Destroyer Viribus LEGENDS - By WizzThe Viribus was a Venator-Class Star Destroyer that served during the Clone Wars, with the Galactic Army of the Republic. The Viribus served its time off-duty in orbit around Kamino. It flew numerous missions to defend Republic-held systems and was part of many different fleets throughout the war. The Venator-Class Star Destroyer was not really a destroyer, but a capital ship cruiser. The Viribus, like its sister ships, was manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards, was 1,155 meters in length, and held a Class 1.0 hyperdrive rating. The Viribus was armed with nine heavy turbolaser turrets, which was one more than design suggested for Venator-class ships. The extra turret was placed in a bay located between the bases of the two command towers the Venator-class ships were so well-known for. Like her sisters, the Virbus was armed with 2 medium dual laser cannons, several tractor beams, and four proton torpedo tubes. The Viribus was outfitted with fifty-two supercharged point defense systems to ward off enemy small flying craft. The Viribus was an early-war Venator, meaning that she had plenty of hangar space. The forward section featured a passage down the middle with bays for starships on either side. The bays could be accessed through a large opening door on the top of the cruiser. Towards the aft-end of the passage, there was a large door in the floor, where Consular-class cruisers and other larger starships could dock. If the space was not being used, troops could jump directly out of the hangar door onto the battlefield below if the Venator was close enough to the ground. Walkers could also be deployed from this hangar if the cruiser was at very low altitude. LAAT pilots prefered this large hangar door to depart from the cruiser. The LAAT's size and wingspan made departure from the long door at the top of the ship a tight fit. Throughout the Clone Wars, the Viribus fought in several battles. She orbited Kamino regularly, and was part of the Kaminoan Defense Fleet during and after the Battle of Kamino, in which CIS forces managed to attack the homeworld of the clones in surprise. Being one of the first Venators built, the Viribus was also present during the Battle of Geonosis and Battle of Cristophsis. During the end of the Battle of Cristophsis, Viribus was attacked by a CIS ship. The CIS ship was destroyed in the skirmish, but the Viribus was crippled. After repair, she was deployed to Quell to assist in landing of Republic forces. Again, she was crippled. A consular-class cruiser was hit by a focused barrage of CIS fire, causing the ship to break in half and fall to the planet. In its path was the Viribus. The aft section of the ship struck the Viribus's starboard bridge, killing Captain Kolin. The Viribus was called upon more than ever nearing the end of the Clone Wars. She assisted in the Second Battle of Geonosis, the Assault on Mygeeto, the Battle of Kashyyk, The Battle of Felucia, and the Battle of Utapau. After the Second Battle of Geonosis, it was reported that only 12 of the 40 LAAT infantry gunships that the Viribus deployed returned. She assisted in the deployment of the Galactic Marines onto the planet of Mygeeto. Leaving Mygeeto, a CIS ship left hyperspace less than a thousand meters from her bow. The close proximity resulted in a landing of CIS forces onto the ship. Half of the crew was slaughtered in the close combat. The Viribus took up a supporting role during the beginning of Kashyyk, in which she provided orbital strike ability to troops on the ground. In the Battle of Felucia, Admiral Liam took up temporary command of the cruiser. He had the cruiser lowered to the treeline on the surface of Felucia, when a droid dropship crashed into the bow of the ship, forcing the Viribus to dig its nose into the planet. The incident killed many clones on the ground, as the ship was providing cover from orbital strikes from CIS ships in orbit. This meant that the ship crushed a large amount of the Felucian Republic frontline. During the Battle of Utapau, the Viribus was deploying starfighters and LAATs to the planet surface when Order 66 was initiated. Leaving its ships behind, the commander of the ship turned the cruiser around and headed for Dagobah. Nearing the Rimma Trade Route, a Jedi within the ship managed to sabotage the reactor energy cells, rigging them to explode. The Jedi was surrounded by clones in the main hangar of the Viribus and was killed. Moments later, the energy cells exploded, breaking the ship in half. The starboard bridge broke off from the ship, and followed the momentum of the original path of the cruiser to eventually land on Dagobah, where some of its pieces were used as furniture and parts to build a little shack for a short, big-eared, green alien that would carry the Viribus on throughout history.
